What is the title of the programme?
GETC: Ancillary Health Care, SAQA ID 49606

Qualification Type: National Certificate

Duration of study: At least 12 months. It has Theory, Practical and Work Place Training components.

 What are the entry requirements?
Ability to read and write in English (Certificates or reports not needed)

What is the purpose of the programme?
To equip learners with competence required to perform community health functions under the supervision of a professional health care worker or nurse. Qualified learners in this field will provide a service that will assist communities to better manage their own health and wellness.

Duties of an Ancillary Health Care Worker 

An Ancillary Health Care worker does the following nursing care duties under the supervision of professional nurses.
1. Assisting clients with personal care (dressing, mobility, administering medication, personal hygiene, eating and transporting to doctor’s appointments)
2. Monitoring patient medications and update health charts
3. Monitoring and recording vital signs ((blood pressure, temperature, pulse etc.)
4. Maintain open communication between families and health care professionals regarding client’s medical and emotional condition
5. Document and report any changes in client’s health status
6. Ensure highest client safety and well-being.

 

What can I do after obtaining this qualification?

  • Find employment as a Care Giver/Care Worker.
  • Enroll to study the national certificate in Ancillary Health Care at Levels 2(Community Health Work Level 2)
