HOME BASED CARE GIVER

Home Based Care Giver (HBCG)

Support and supervise vulnerable, infirm, or disadvantaged individuals in homes, community centres, old age homes, hospices, and hospitals. This course equips learners with essential caregiving skills to promote comfort, dignity, and wellbeing.

  • Assist clients with personal care (dressing, mobility, medication, hygiene, eating, transportation)
  • Monitor patient medications and update health charts
  • Record and monitor vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, etc.)
  • Maintain open communication with families and healthcare professionals
  • Document and report changes in client’s health status
  • Ensure the highest standards of client safety and well-being
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Full-time: 2 months (Mon–Fri)
  • Part-time: 3 months (Saturday classes)
  • 6 intakes per year: January, March, May, July, September, November
  • No external exams; learners compile a portfolio of evidence supervised by an assessor and moderator
  • Certificate of Competence issued by Kunokhanya Training Academy

After completing this skills programme, learners are prepared for employment as a Care Giver or Care Worker in a range of settings, including:

  • Private homes
  • Community care centres / Primary Health Care Clinics
  • Nursing homes, hospices, and day care centres
  • Clinics or hospitals
  • NGOs / NPOs
