Become a vital part of primary healthcare! HPOs play a pre-emptive role in identifying health needs and promoting community wellness.
- Provide basic nursing and palliative care
- Treat simple diseases, injuries, and wounds
- Make referrals for health problems
- Promote TB infection control
- Measure temperature, BP, pulse, and respiration
- Check STI’s and educate/refer for treatment
- Identify and refer pregnant mothers and newborns
- Conduct HIV/AIDS testing and counselling
- Identify substance abusers and refer for rehabilitation
- Teach dangers of drug abuse and promote hygiene
- Educate about men’s, women’s, and children’s health
- Ancillary Health Care NQF Level 1
- ABET Level 4 with FLC
- Grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 (no specific subjects required)
Full-time: 12 months (Mon–Fri)
Part-time: 18 months (Sat classes)
Intakes: February, June, October
National exams are written in June/July and October/November. Successful learners are awarded: Occupational Certificate: Health Promotion Officer by QCTO.
