What is a Home Based Care Giver?
A person (male or female) employed to support and supervise vulnerable, infirm, or disadvantaged people, in their homes, community centres, old age homes, hospices, hospitals etc.
Duties of a Home Based Care Giver:
- Assisting clients with personal care (dressing, mobility, administering medication, personal hygiene, eating and transporting to doctor’s appointments)
- Monitoring patient medications and update health charts
- Monitoring and recording vital signs ((blood pressure, temperature, pulse etc.)
- Maintain open communication between families and health care professionals regarding client’s medical and emotional condition
- Document and report any changes in client’s health status
- Ensure highest client safety and well-being
Entry Requirements
- Ability to read and write in English
Duration of study:
- It can be done in two (2) months on full-time attendance (i.e. Mon to Fri) or three (3) months on part-time attendance (Sat classes).
- There are 6 intakes per year, that is Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep and Nov.
Examinations
- There are no external examinations. Learners compile a portfolio of evidence under supervision by an assessor and moderator.
Certification
- Learners who pass HWSETA verification of their portfolios will be awarded Statement of Results by HWSETA and certificates of competence by Kunokhanya Training Academy.
